Thoughts on Translation and Storytelling
Was randomly browsing through the Discover section here at bear blog and found a neat little blog that does scantalations https://nerfdeidaratranslations.net.
I tried my hand at translations a few times and it was not my cup of tea so I'm always in awe of those that find joy in it or are able to preserve enough to get the work done regardless. As much as I try and continue to trick myself into getting back into it, I just go right back to hating it lmao. Maybe manga translation is what I should be doing next ...
As an aside, I've been thinking about "stories" in the conceptual sense and I've come to appreciate those essayists that try and explore deeper themes and ideas in an author's work. A creator that I started to follow last year named r7dman1 makes these nice long pieces on different manga and I find it so cool how he engages with the works. Me on the other hand, not too sure I'm capable of that lol. It's something that I definitely want to try my hand at though. There was a late night television show called BS漫画夜話2 whose entire run should be on YouTube where they would go over different manga and talk about it on a panel. I never watched a full episode though so maybe now would be a good time to start lol.
