Hello Talk Escapades and Job Searching

A running theme in this blog seems to be that consistency is not a thing ...

Most of the last few months have had close to zero Japanese. The one exception being all of the hello talk I've been doing and the Japanese job prep / interviewing. Most of this has been strictly in the month of April and May so from mid February to that point in time I most likely had less than less than 10 hours total of any Japanese input. So much for my new years goal of Japanese everyday 笑

For the hello talk experience, it was basically the same as always. Lots of random messaging to Japanese people with some random moments posting here and there. Something I've done a bit differently this time however was spend more time on calls and reach out to more Japanese learners and talk to them as well. I have to say I think it was a more enjoyable experience this time around. The only problem is that hello talk kind of becomes this all consuming thing of "I need to have conversations going at all times" with me if I'm ever using it and sustaining that level of usage is obviously unrealistic. Building out one or two good friends that you can banter with seems to be the best way forward but I'm already bad at keeping up with my irl friends so doing that with someone that is halfway around the globe in a different timezone would be a different kind of hell lol.

As for the job search, it started out promising. After applying to a few companies with no replies back, I reached out to a recruiter and he seemed optimistic about my chances. The first red flag however was that the offer was quite a lowball lol. The next one came when the company that he wanted to refer me to was ... not the best of companies lol. Cool guy though at least.

Outside of that, my japanese has been zilch, nada, zero. I hope to try and bring that back up during the summer but I would wager that most of my japanese usage will probably come from job searching. Onwards with the rejections ...
